This workshop will show how the Coordinator-Mentor-Teacher cycle rolls, through sharing the presenters' personal experiences plus practical examples.

Your Strategies and Their Strategies: Pressing the Right Buttons!

Reflecting upon the rich mixture of students’ backgrounds in a classroom, I cannot help thinking that teaching a second language is much more than merely teaching the four skills. In order to do our job effectively, we must offer students a wide variety of strategies that allow them to become autonomous learners. Putting the blame on them every time they do not know a word, tense, structure, format, or answer is just the easiest way out. We must leave our comfort zone and understand that we cannot take things for granted. Could it be that they truly did not get the question, or did not have enough exposure to a certain piece of information, or were not taught in the proper way? Might it be that they have not yet learned how to study? If you stop to think about this, you will be surprised to find out that, many times, we discover the resourceful teacher within when pushed to go the extra mile. After starting that journey, both you and your students are going to confirm that, the secret of effective learning relies in the power of connecting past successes with future actions. Once we do something that is successful, we continue doing it that way. We hit those buttons and we make it happen!

ABS International Congress in Buenos Aires

Alianza Pocitos is very proud to be highly represented in this important professional congress held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Our Academic Coordinator, Prof. Vivian Suárez will be holding a workshop entitiled "Talent-Oriented Teaching." Our Teacher Mentor, Prof. Fabiana Hernández, together with Prof. Suárez will be holding a workshop entitled "Coordimentoring."

Profs. William Machado and Valeria Guerra have been sponsored by SBS Librería Internacional, to deliver a pre-conference session entitled "Wikis at your Service."

Our Academic Director, Lic. Silvia Laborde will deliver a workshop entitled "Standards: a powerful decision-making tool inside/outside the classroom."

Alianza Pocitos teachers Andrea Repetto and Marianela Ayub were selected to represent us in this professional event.

Teachers from around the country meet for workshops, professional forums, and camaraderie.

MEET THE AUTHOR!

Prof. Gabriela Rodríguez and her T & Th 5:30 Pre Prof students had the pleasure of meeting world renowned author John Katzenbach on May 4.

Lic. Silvia Laborde, Alianza Pocitos' Academic Director, will be participating in the 44th Annual TESOL Convention in Boston, March -
24-27.

She will be holding a workshop together with Dr. Fernando Fleurquin, Director of the English Language Center at the University of Maryland at Baltimore County entitled: "Using TESOL standards for personal and professional development." She will also be holding a talk entitled "Program Administrator: architect of a learning organization."

We are very proud to announce that our teacher mentor Prof. Fabiana Hernández, Prof. Valeria Guerra and Prof. William Machado will be presenters in the 2010 International Congress of Professional Development for Teachers of English in Buenos Aires in February 2010.

Checking your grades on-line

Make sure that you have your Alianza username and password.
When you register to a course you receive an email from the Alianza with your username and password. So, check in your email and if you don't have it, ask the secretaries for a new one.

Then, go to www.alianza.edu.uy and follow the steps shown in the following animation.

El período de inscripción se extiende desde el 16 al 24 de abril.

Ir al sitio: www.alianza.edu.uy y sobre la izquierda hacer click sobre "EXÁMENES". En "EXÁMENES INTERNACIONALES" hacer click en el botón que dice "SELECT".

Esto los lleva a elegir el examen para el cual se van a inscribir. En este caso "FIRST MICHIGAN".

Ahí les da una breve reseña del examen con la fecha posible y el costo de USD 100. Hacer clicksobre el botón "INSCRIBIRME"

Allí se despliega un formulario que suplanta al formulario-papel anterior. Es muy importante que el alumno seleccione el centro donde estudia. Si no encuentra el nombre de su centro o lugar de estudio, deberá hacer click en la opción: "OTROS". Allí se desplegará una linea en blanco donde podrá digitar su lugar de estudios.

Una vez completo el formulario hacer click en "REGISTER".

Luego de este procedimiento, en forma automática, el alumnorecibirá un e-mail paraverificar y re-confirmar o corregirsuinformación personal.

Una vezque el alumnohaga click para re-confirmar los datos (o los haya corregido y re-confirmado),se desplegarántres alternativas para realizar el pago:

1.Ir con una copia del email al mostrador de la Alianza centro (Paraguay 1217).

2. Imprimir el email e ir a pagar enla sucursal más cercana de REDPAGOS.

3. Ir a alguna sucursal del Banco República y efectuar un depósito por el importe en la cuenta: Rubro 188 cuenta 000582, sub cuenta 2. Una vez efectuado el depósito mandar por fax la tirilla con el nombre de la persona inscripta en el examen al 900-7356. O escanear la tirilla y mandarla por email a b_greco@alianza.edu.uy. El alumno no estará inscripto hasta que la tirilla no se haya recibido. Esto tiene que ser hecho en el correr de 24 horas, de lo contrario cae la inscripción.

ES IMPORTANTE ACLARAR QUE EL PROCESO DE INSCRIPCIÓN NO QUEDA COMPLETOHASTA QUE NO SE CONCRETE EL PAGO.

Luego de efectuar el pago el alumno recibiráun email con: la confirmación de la inscripción, salón para el examen, fecha y horario del examen oral.
